Script Development
Theatre is a collaborative process. Few writers produce a first draft that is instantly ready for production. Stages supports script development in a variety of ways to ensure that new, emerging and established performance writers get the best and most suitable development process for their particular requirements. Performance writers range from those writing a play script in the isolation of their homes to those working in a collaborative environment in which the writer is one role in the genesis of the work. It is Stages belief and intent that each of these writing modes and all the myriad of others in between are provided with flexible and professional support and advocacy. Accessible to all performance writers, Stages provides a Script Assessment Service. and Script Development Funding is for emerging and established playwrights only.
Recognising that playwrights fall into many different categories, our programs are tailored for all playwrights using the following definitions.
New playwrights: have a desire to write, are not professional and may not be interested in moving towards a professional writing career.
Emerging playwrights:Aspire to a professional career, are in their first 5 years of writing, and have received some public presentation or recognition
Established playwrights: Have made a significant commitment to a professional career, have more than 5 years experience with evidence of professional achievement, have a number of professional writing credits. “Professional” means an artist, ensemble, producer or broadcaster that has been publicly or commercially funded.
